KWVL Rules & Regulations

The main focus of this league is to enhance our volleyball skills, meet new people, have fun and to be a good sport. There is one minor change as to how points are awarded to teams. If you have any questions, you can speak with your team Captain or contact one of the league committee members.

  • Please be at the gym 10 minutes before your start time
  • Games go to 25 points (27 point rule) or 50 minutes. Points are awarded in the following manner:
    • 1 point is awarded for each game won
    • Points are only awarded for the first 3 games in a match. If there is time remaining, a fourth game can be played, but it will not count for points – it will be for fun only
    • A minimum of 7 points must be won for a game to count for points (this applies when the 50 minute time limit runs out)
  • Please contact your team captain if you cannot come to your games.  Failure to notify your captain may result in loss of pre-registration privileges for next year.
  • The team captain may pick up a player(s) if they are needed. There is no minimum number of players required for the game to start. Do not let your team down by not contacting your captain if you will be absent. This rule will be adjusted for tournaments and play-offs.
  • The referee calls are final. Only the team captain can question the call. If clarification is required regarding the rule, this can be discussed after the game. Remember this is only a game.
  • Ontario Volleyball Association Rules apply plus:
    • Rotate players out of the service position.
    • Serving team must rotate after 5 consecutive serves.
    • Contact of the ball is allowed above the waist only. Kicking the ball is unacceptable and will not be tolerated; you do not want to be responsible for a teammate’s injury.
    • Teams are strongly encouraged to try for 3 passes each time.
    • A player may volley on serves.
    • Net services (tips) will be allowed.
    • A point is awarded on every serve (rally point).
    • Both feet need to be behind the line prior to the serve (starting position). One step over the line while serving is permitted.
  • This recreational league invites players of all skill levels to participate. Everyone is encouraged to play to their full potential, which could mean hitting/spiking the ball during play. Please be advised that this is allowed.
